ABOUT
Symbiosis is a Berlin-based anti-disciplinary initiative fostering the cross-pollination of art, Science, and technology. It aims to provoke artists, scientists, engineers, musicians, hackers, mathematicians, academics, and creative practitioners to blur the disciplinary boundaries in innovating new avenues of multidisciplinary and multi-species alliances.
Art & Science were never as disparate from each other as they are now. During the 18th & 19th centuries, the formal institutionalization of academia reinforced the separation of these fields, further cemented due to the industrial revolulization, which perceived scientific pursuits directly linked to economic and technological progress. In contrast, art was seen as having less immediate “practical” values. The industrial revolution brought significant technological advancements and societal changes, and as specialization increased, disciplines became more distinct and focused, leading to the separation between art and Science.
The symbiotic cultivation of art-science-technological experimentation is essential for societal advancement. Art captures human expression and culture, Science drives understanding and innovation, and technology bridges their realms. They foster interdisciplinary collaboration and enable us to tackle complex challenges creatively. This synergy enhances cognitive flexibility, nurtures diverse perspectives, and equips society to navigate an ever-changing landscape effectively.
The convergence of art-science-technology holds the potential to offer new possibilities of collaboration, communication, and interaction, bridging the gap that history has created.
At the core of Symbiosis lies a deep commitment to cultivating global dialogues with a dedicated focus on promoting underrepresented narratives and transdisciplinary practitioners, providing a platform for voices that might otherwise go unheard. By creating space for a multitude of perspectives, we aim to expand the horizons of creativity, ushering in a new era of inclusivity and unity.
Through intercultural dialogues, we envision a future where creativity knows no bounds and collaboration is the key to progress.
